Wiregrass Ranch Hires Coaches For Three Teams

Published: July 11, 2008

LAND O' LAKES - Wiregrass Ranch High has added three new faces to its roster of coaches, filling vacant baseball, softball and cheerleading positions.

A.J. Leppla, who was the junior varsity baseball coach, will replace Kris Parrish, who resigned in April, prior to the end of the season. Parrish coached for two seasons.

Amy Lipovetsky takes over the softball program for Chris Webb, who coached two seasons.

The cheerleaders will be guided by Dawn Wetherby, who spent more than a decade coaching the cheer teams at the Wesley Chapel Athletic Association.

"A.J. was our assistant coach and coached the JV team and he's done all of our summer stuff," Wiregrass athletic director David Wilson said. "We had to have a coach as an interim coach at the end of the season. ... It was almost like a working interview for him, this whole summer. He's done a real nice job with the boys.

"He definitely has them believing they can turn things around here and that they can be successful and they've had a really good summer, I think they've only lost one or two games this summer."

As for softball, Wilson believes four applicants applied, but he is confident he found a quality coach in Lipovetsky.

"Amy comes to us after a year at Armwood, where she was the head coach there," Wilson said. "Just very organized, very motivated, she's excited about the position; not only as the softball coach but she's also in our physical education department."

Wetherby was brought to the school's attention through numerous recommendations from those in the community.

"She's the one person where I got numerous phone calls from people telling me just wonderful things about her," Wilson said. "People who didn't even have kids, who went to the school would say, 'My daughter had her when she was younger and she did a great job with the team' and also as far as her person goes and her character."

Only one athletic position remains open and that is for the assistant baseball job, Wilson said.
