TAMPA - One man is dead and another is charged with DUI manslaughter after two cars collided early this morning at Dale Mabry Highway and West Waters Avenue, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The victim is identified as Richard W. Buck, 21, of Tampa. A news release said that Buck was driving north on Dale Mabry when his 2003 Toyota Tacoma was struck by another motorist, Juan Aecca, 31, of Tampa, just after 3 a.m.
Aecca was headed west on Waters in a 1997 Buick four-door when he ran a red light at Dale Mabry, the release said.
The impact ejected Buck from his car, which overturned and landed upside down in the center of the intersection, the release said. The intersection was shut down for several hours but has since reopened to traffic.
Aecca was arrested at the scene, the release said. He is charged with DUI manslaughter, DUI property damage, operating a motor vehicle without a driver's license and violating a traffic control device.
Aecca was being held this morning without bail at the Orient Road Jail, records show.
Neither person was wearing a seat belt, the release said.
