KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Mark Grudzielanek led off the Royals' third inning Saturday night with a single for his 2,000th career hit.

Grudzielanek, who also singled in the first inning, hit a 1-0 pitch from Seattle left-hander Jarrod Washburn to center and received a standing ovation from the Kauffman Stadium crowd.

Grudzielanek became the 18th active player and the 251st in major-league history to reach the milestone. He became the sixth player to reach 2,000 hits in a Royals uniform. The others were George Brett, Amos Otis, Hal McRae, Frank White and Lee May.
