Pedestrian Struck, Seriously Injured In Clearwater

CLEARWATER - A 39-year-old transient was seriously injured this morning when he was struck by a car on Court Street, authorities said.

Eric J. Riles was struck at 4 a.m. between Lincoln and Missouri avenues, said Elizabeth Daly-Watts, spokeswoman for Clearwater's public safety department.

Alex T. Wayne, the 20-year-old Largo driver of the 2002 Jaguar that struck Riles, has not been charged, she said. There was no indication he was impaired, and it appears Riles ran into the Jaguar's path, she said.

Riles was flown by helicopter to Bayfront Medical Center, Daly-Watts said. He is expected to survive, she said.
