ST. PETERSBURG - Three people were displaced this morning by a fire in a bedroom of their home, fire officials say.
The blaze at 4725 20th Ave. S. began about 8:20 a.m., said Lt. Joel Granata, spokesman for St. Petersburg Fire and Rescue.
One of the home's occupants, Sabrina Morris, 31, said she was sleeping when she was awakened by the heat. She noticed flames coming from behind the bed where she was sleeping, where an air conditioner was plugged in, Granata said.
She tried to put out the fire and burned a hand, Granata said. Paramedics treated her at the scene for a second-degree burn, he said.
The blaze did about $15,000 damage. All three adults living at the home were displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross, Granata said.
There were no smoke detectors in the house, Granata said.
