A sampling of local teams participating in the Red Bull Flugtag USA in Tampa:
91st Air Refueling Squadron: These are the folks who operate the KC-135 Stratotanker out of MacDill Air Force Base, which refuels planes around the world. Their plane: They're basically attaching wings to a gas can.
Booty Snatchin' Pirates: Four civil engineers and one chemical engineer. Their plane: Petey the Projectile Pirate Parrot, which is a small boatlike craft with a huge hang glider attached that features the head of a parrot.
Coyote Ugly Saloon: Bartenders at Coyote Ugly in Ybor City, who dance and serve drinks. They'll dance as part of their Flugtag skit. Their plane: A biplane that has cowboy boots between the wings.
Jamon Y Queso: The flight crew helped launch Space Age Television in Tampa. Their plane: A giant Cuban sandwich, including lettuce, pickles, tomato.
Metrocon Tech Crew: Graduates of St. Petersburg's Lakewood High School and fans of Japanese anime, which is on display each year at Florida's largest anime festival, Metrocon. Their plane: A variation on the Mach 5 car from the cartoon ''Speed Racer.''
Tampa Bay Derby Darlins': These women are skaters in the Tampa Bay Derby Darlins' roller derby league. Their plane: A roller skate equipped with wings.
Team LoMac: Fans, and players, of the simulation game ''Lock On: Modern Air Combat.'' Their plane: Plans call for building a 3-D version of a plane from the game, which actually looks like a real airplane.
Team Tampa Baywatch: These guys, including Keith Humphrey, sales manager at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino, plan a parody of the television show ''Baywatch.'' Their plane: A yellow rescue boat with wings.
The Breadwinners: Employees of Creative Loafing, the area's alternative newspaper. Their plane: A Cuban sandwich, which makes this the first Flugtag competition to have two Cuban sandwiches.
The Flying Pigs: The folks from Skatepark of Tampa plan to dress up as police officers out to arrest skateboarders. Their plane: Less a plane, really, than a skateboarder with wings attached to him.
The UT Spartans: Current students or alumni of the University of Tampa who plan to dress as Spartans (the UT mascot) and stage a skit based (loosely) on the film ''300.'' Their plane: A minaret equipped with wings.
