Wrong Path For Government

Regarding "Fannie, Freddie Rescue Planned" (front page, July 14):

The recent actions by our lawmakers in Washington have me worried me that we are headed down a dark path of government interference. While loaning money to the Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac is one thing, to actually have the U.S. government become stockholders is clearly another.

What happens when other industries that are critical to our infrastructure start to fail such as the airlines or defense industries, should the U.S. Treasury use our income tax money to take over these institutions? Will Congress stop there? There are drug companies that create medicines; shall Congress make a hostile takeover of that industry for the good of the state?

With the might of the Treasury, what is there to stop the Congress from removing the private sector from the equation? It is a dark day indeed when Congress decides it should become the majority shareholder of a private company!
