Kenneth Ray Walker was ordered to take a drug test as part of his probation, but when he went to take his test Tuesday afternoon at the Plant City Police Department, police said that Walker claimed that he could not urinate at that time. An officer told him to keep trying.
Walker, 41, eventually told them that test results would show that his urine was not clean because he used cocaine Friday, police said. They also said Walker also told them he had with him a condom filled with water that he planned to use in place of his urine.
Walker was on probation for conspiracy to deliver a controlled substance and is required to give urine tests to show he is no longer using drugs, according to an affidavit. He was released from custody April 10.
Attempts to falsify drug tests are not unusual, said Kim Hildreth, creator of the Web site "Drug Test Your Teen," Hildreth worked in a lab prior to starting the Web site and said that there are many products that claim to fool laboratory testing. Products include synthetic urine, herbal supplements and various beverages that can be purchased in stores or online.
Hildreth said that although these products occasionally work, laboratories measure PH levels and look for other indicators that indicate that the sample was falsified.
Walker was charged with conspiracy to deliver a controlled substance, a felony, and fraudulent drug testing, a misdemeanor. Walker is being held at Orient Road Jail without bond.
