The newest visitor to Safety Harbor is a stealthy, territorial hunter with fearsome teeth and claws.
Several residents have reported seeing a bobcat roaming the neighborhood near Main Street and Fernbrooke Drive during the past few days, according to city officials.
No one has been hurt, but residents are encouraged to call the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission at (850) 488-4676 if they see the bobcat again.
If the animal becomes aggressive or hurts someone, people should call 911.
According to FWC's Web site, bobcats live in all areas of Florida and throughout most of North America. They are skilled hunters who usually range over a territory of 5 to 6 square miles.
They can grow up to 3 feet long, including their distinctive short tail, and weigh between 15 and 30 pounds.
