NEW YORK Buster Posey capped one of the greatest seasons in Florida State history by winning the 2008 Golden Spikes Award as announced by USA Baseball on Wednesday. Posey becomes the fourth Seminole to capture the award, joining Mike Fuentes (1981), Mike Loynd (1986) and J.D. Drew (1997).

The other finalists were San Diego's Brian Matusz, Georgia's Gordon Beckham, Missouri's Aaron Crow and Arizona State's Brett Wallace.

Posey, a junior catcher, won every major player of the year award: Dick Howser Trophy, Brooks Wallace Award, Player of the Year by Collegiate Baseball, Baseball America and Rivals.com, and the Johnny Bench Award (nation's top catcher). He led the nation in six offensive categories: batting average (.463), hits (119), RBIs (93), total bases (226), slugging percentage (.879) and on-base percentage (.566).
