TAMPA - 53-year-old man was shot in the chest and struck with a gun outside his home early this morning after returning from an Amscot Financial branch, police said.
After leaving an Amscot branch at 22nd Street and East Hillsborough Avenue, Jerry Lee Louis pulled into his driveway at 2012 E. Hanna Ave. at 12:54 a.m. and was approached by two men with handguns who demanded money, according to the Tampa Police Department.
According to the police report:
When Louis refused to give them money, one man struck him on the forehead with the handgun and then shot him once in the chest.
The robbers then ran west along East Hanna Avenue and entered a beige car. They then drove away.
Louis was taken to Tampa General Hospital and was in stable condition.
