NEW PORT RICHEY - It's new! It's improved!
Pasco County is preparing to unwrap its redesigned county government Web site with more features for its increasingly tech-savvy residents.
The target date for the relaunch is Tuesday, barring any last-minute glitches, according to spokespersons Eric Keaton and Amy Ellis.
The repackaged site tries to infuse a bit more Web 2.0 glitz into a somewhat dated, dowdy design of the current home page with lots of tiny type.
A predominantly green color scheme will remain. So will the web address at http://www.pascocountyfl.net/.
The streamlined interface is intended to make it easier to navigate the county's electronic base, officials said.
Heather Grimes has been serving as the project manager to freshen up and expand upon the county site. The county has sought suggestions from the public to incorporate into the site.
Computer users will gain the ability search for specific items on the county site, for instance, Ellis reports.
An interactive Google maps feature will be added.
The database library of county documents and forms will become searchable. So will the county calendar of events and meetings.
The redesign will create separate portals for visitors, residents, businesses and employees.
Quick links will point people on how to apply for a government job, register to vote, submit a permit application, online payments of traffic tickets and online driver's license renewal.
"So many people out there are Internet savvy," Keaton commented recently. The county is doing its best to catch up with them. Then "we have a happy visitor."
