Friday night, when Sarah Moore demanded money from Robert Smith at 2206 2nd Ave E in Palmetto, Smith refused to give her any, Manatee County sheriff's deputies said.
So Moore, 25, grabbed a knife, deputies say, and stabbed Smith, 72.
This is what happened next, according to a sheriff's release:
Moore took Smith's wallet and removed $6. Smith fought back and stabbed Moore with a pitchfork.
Then Moore fled.
Smith, of 2200 2nd Ave E., Palmetto, called 911. When deputies arrived, they found Smith bleeding from a puncture wound, several inches deep, in his upper left chest. Smith, who was sitting up and speaking with deputies, was taken by medical helicopter to Bayfront Medical Center.
Deputies found Moore near 900 21st St. East in Palmetto.
When she was arrested, Moore complained about the injuries she received when Smith stabbed her with the pitchfork. She was taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital.
Moore had an outstanding warrant for aggravated battery out of Sarasota County and was later booked into the Manatee County Jail.
Moore was also charged with armed robbery and was being held Saturday with no bail set, Manatee jail records show.
Editor's Note: A sheriff's office news release incorrectly reported that Smith was also arrested. An earlier version of this report contained this error, and some comments below may reflect that.
