Published: July 19, 2008

Britney Spears and Kevin Federline have reached an agreement that grants the pop singer more visits with her children and averts a custody trial that was scheduled for next month, attorneys said Friday.

The agreement was announced after a closed-door session among lawyers for both sides and a Los Angeles Superior Court commissioner. Neither Spears nor Federline appeared in court, and the attorneys declined to discuss specifics about the agreement.

A court spokesman says no formal settlement has been filed, but Federline's attorney, Mark Kaplan, said the agreement averts a trial on custody issues that had been scheduled for late August.

Spears' attorney, Laura Wasser, says the agreement will give Spears more time with her young boys, Sean Preston and Jayden James. While Federline still has full custody, Wasser says Spears may get expanded rights by the end of the year.

Hayek Cancels Engagement To CEO

Salma Hayek has called off her engagement to businessman Francois-Henri Pinault, her representative said Friday.

The couple announced their plans to wed in March 2007, and welcomed a daughter, Valentina Paloma Pinault, several months later.

"We are sad to announce the engagement of Salma Hayek and Francois-Henri Pinault has been canceled," publicist Cari Ross said in a statement. "There will be no further comment."

Hayek, 41, has starred in films such as "Frida," "Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over" and "After the Sunset." Pinault is the chief executive officer of the luxury goods company PPR SA, which owns high-end labels such as Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, Balenciaga and Puma.

Judge OKs 50 Cent's Trip With Son

Rapper 50 Cent is free to take a vacation with his son after passing a court-ordered drug test.

The 33-year-old entertainer was in a Long Island courtroom Thursday to ask a judge for permission to take 11-year-old Marquise on a trip next month.

A drug test was ordered, and it came back clean.

Marquise lives with his mother, Shaniqua Tompkins. She is 50 Cent's ex-girlfriend and blames 50 Cent for a fire that destroyed the Long Island mansion where she and the boy were living. He has denied the accusation.

McMahon Sues Hospital Over Neck Injury

Ed McMahon is suing a Los Angeles hospital and others over a neck injury he said has left him unable to work.

McMahon filed suit in Los Angeles Superior Court on Friday against Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, two doctors, and the owner of a home where he says he fell and broke his neck.

The former "The Tonight Show" sidekick claims Cedars-Sinai discharged him with the injury, and that the stairs at a home where he was attending a dinner party in March 2007 were unsafe.

The lawsuit gives new insights into the neck injuries McMahon discussed in a recent appearance on "Larry King Live." McMahon said he fell behind on mortgage payments because he was unable to work as a pitchman.
