Two people were seriously injured in a hit-and-run accident on Interstate 75 Saturday night just north of Sun City Center.
The Florida Highway Patrol said John Suppa, 52, changed lanes while heading south on I-75 and his 1999 Toyota Tacoma hit the right rear of another Tacoma driven by Ramey Saleh, 35.
The impact caused Saleh's truck to spin out of control, flipping and landing on its wheels near the tree line on the west side of the interstate. The collision occurred about three miles north of State Road 674.
Suppa kept driving until a flat tire forced him to stop about two miles from the accident where police found him, the highway patrol said.
Saleh was taken to Tampa General Hospital with serious injuries. A passenger, Lora Saleh, 59, was taken to Tampa General with critical injuries, the FHP said. Both are from Nokomis.
Ramey Saleh was wearing a seatbelt. Lora Saleh was not, the patrol said.
Suppa, of, Sarasota, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident with serious physical injuries, the highway patrol said. He was not injured.
