WINTER HAVEN - A DNA test has linked a 25-year-old man to two rapes that occurred in Winter Haven in June and February, police said.
Edwin G. Mejia-Zapata, of 7183 Summit Drive, was arrested at his home about 6:20 p.m. Monday by detectives from the Winter Haven Police Department and the Polk County Sheriff's Office, authorities said.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement analyzed DNA evidence and linked Mejia-Zapata to a June 23 rape and another in February, Winter Haven police said. The investigation is still ongoing.
He was expected to be booked Monday night at Polk County Jail, authorities said.
