TAMPA - A Valrico woman arrested in June on multiple charges of grand theft, fraud, forgery and probation violations now faces a civil lawsuit.
Gulf Coast Metal Inc. is suing its former officer worker, Barbara Lynn Griner and her husband, saying she stole more than $100,000 from the company. The suit seeks more than $15,000 in damages.
Griner, 49, of 2607 Wrencrest Circle, is accused of forging company checks using the owner's name, according to a police report.
Griner went to work for Gulf Coast in January 2007. Court records show that a month later, she received a suspended 15-year prison sentence and 15 years probation after she was found guilty of felony organized fraud for stealing from a different company.
She was not to work at a place where she handled other people's money, according to the terms of her probation.
According to Gulf Coast Metal's attorney, J. Scott Taylor, Griner is accused of stealing more than $100,000.
Griner remains at the Orient Road Jail without bond.
According to the lawsuit, Griner's husband, George Griner, knew or should have known his wife was stealing from the company. He could not be reached for comment.
