Polk Deputies Seek Man They Say Stalked Business Worker

BARTOW - Detectives are looking for a man they say called a Mulberry business about 30 times to threaten an employee, the Polk County Sheriff's Office said.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Joseph F. Smith, 52, of 5115 Socrum Loop Road, Lakeland. Smith faces charges of aggravated stalking, violation of an injunction and tampering with a victim, sheriff's spokeswoman Donna Wood said.

Between noon and 5 p.m. Sunday, Smith called a retail store in Mulberry repeatedly and threatened an employee, a violation of a court-ordered injunction, Wood said. The sheriff's office is not naming the store to protect the victim's identity.
