Hillsborough Schools Plan Bus Route Meetings For Parents

TAMPA - The Hillsborough County School District will hold several more meetings on school transportation between today and the start of the school year Aug. 18.

The meetings will be held to explain bus routes to parents and address questions they might have, schools spokesman Steve Hegarty said.

Most of the routes were finalized after a series of meetings in May.

All meetings are from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Here are dates and locations:

Tonight: Blake High School theater, 1701 N. Boulevard

Tuesday: Sickles High School media center, 7950 Gunn Highway

Wednesday: Leto High School media center, 4409 W. Sligh Ave.

July 28: Middleton High School media center, 4801 N. 22nd St.

July 30: Robinson High School media center, 6311 S. Lois Ave.

July 31: Alonso High School auditorium, 8302 Montague St.

Aug. 1: Hillsborough High School auditorium, 5000 Central Ave.

Aug. 4: Chamberlain High School media center, 9401 N. Boulevard

Aug. 6: Jefferson High School auditorium, 4401 W. Cypress St.

Aug. 7: Plant High School media center, 2415 S. Himes Ave.

Transportation officials will answer questions, including ones dealing with issues from the May meetings.

One issue raised at the previous meetings was restricting children to just one address for busing purposes, which may pose a problem for some divorced parents.

Younger children can get confused about which residence they must go home to, Hegarty said, so the rule remains in place because of safety.

"If you ever hear of a child getting lost at a bus stop, very often, that's the issue," he said.

Most of the meetings will be short, Hegarty said.

"We're expecting most parents to sit down at a computer, plug in their address, look at where their stop is and go home and eat dinner," Hegarty said.
