WINTER HAVEN A man walked into a convenience store about 11 p.m. Monday and asked the cashier if he could exchange two dimes and a nickel for a quarter, deputies said.
When the employee of the Circle K store at 4980 Spirit Lake Road opened the register, the man reached over the counter, removed the cash drawer from the register then ran out the door, the Polk County Sheriff's Office said.
Deputies are asking the public for help in finding the man. He is described as black, about 5 feet 8 inches tall and between 220-230 pounds. He is about 40 years old with short gray and black hair and a goatee. He was last seen wearing a gray T-shirt and gray sweatpants shorts.
Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Gus Aguirre at (863) 534-6379 or (863) 534-6200.
