The Belleair Beach Causeway Bridge will be closed from Saturday evening through Sunday evening for work on a new span that is part of the overall replacement project.
Traffic to and from the beach will be rerouted south to the Intracoastal Waterway bridge in Indian Rocks Beach from 7 p.m. Saturday to 7 p.m. Sunday while the Belleair bridge is closed, Pinellas County officials said.
A new Belleair span will open Sunday and provide motorists continuous access as construction continues on the main bridge and causeway.
The $72.2-million, 1.7-mile causeway project will replace the Intracoastal Waterway drawbridge with a 74-foot-high fixed-span being built on the north side of the existing bridge. Construction is slated for completion in spring 2010.
