A new flyover lane opened this morning in New Tampa, connecting southbound Bruce B. Downs Boulevard to southbound Interstate 75.
The lane is expected to make commuting easier because drivers headed toward downtown will no longer have to wait for a light to change to merge onto the interstate.
The drive may get even faster in the next few months. The Florida Department of Transportation says a second flyover lane will open in the next few months.
Meanwhile, DOT urged drivers on Bruce B. Downs to be cautious as motorists get accustomed to the new traffic pattern, which includes the closing of double left-turn lanes at the interchange.
The opening had been postponed from last week because of rainy weather. The overall project, however, is ahead of schedule, according to the DOT.
