Two people died and three more were injured in a three-vehicle wreck Thursday night on State Road 683 north of 51st Avenue East in Bradenton, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.
Essie Lee Leach, 72, of Bradenton was driving south on State Road 683 with passengers George General Leach Sr., 72, and George General Leach Jr., 40, both also of Bradenton, when a 2005 Dodge pickup truck hit her Ford sport utility vehicle from behind, flipping it over the median and into oncoming traffic, the release said.
Essie Leach and Leach Jr. were thrown from the SUV. A third vehicle, also a Dodge pickup truck, hit Leach Jr., the release said.
Essie Leach and Leach Jr. died at Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg. Leach Sr. was seriously injured and taken to Bayfront Medical Center, according to the news release.
None of the Leaches was wearing a seat belt, according to the news release.
The driver of the second pickup truck, 43-year-old Martin Anguiano-Rios of Bradenton was also seriously injured. He also was not wearing a seat belt, according to the news release.
The people in the first pickup truck, the one that hit the Leaches' vehicle, received minor injuries. The driver was Marquis Wayne Rigg, 42, of 5731 Ravenwood Drive, Sarasota. According to the news release, Rigg had a 65-year-old passenger, but investigators did not release the passenger's name.
Charges in the case are pending.
