FORT MEADE - Deputies have identified a man fatally shot during an attempted robbery in Fort Meade Sunday.
Auntrey Keon Jones, 20, of 8225 S. Lanier Ave., Fort Meade, was walking near Southwest Seminole Avenue and Southwest Eighth Street, where Jamel Bell, 20, and Antwan Laron Nelson, 21, tried to rob him before he was shot, Polk sheriff's spokeswoman Carrie Rodgers said.
Just before shooting Jones, authorities say, Bell and Nelson, robbed 21-year-old Lachaz Clark at gunpoint near Southeast Lanier Avenue and Southeast Seventh Street.
Jones was found lying in the street and later died from his injuries at Bartow Regional Medical Center, deputies said.
After the shooting, authorities spotted Nelson driving a white Oldsmobile driving north into Lakeland. Deputies deployed stop sticks, but the car continued until it crashed at West Parker Street and Stella Street, the sheriff's office said.
Both suspects fled after the crash, the sheriff's office said. Bell, of 928 Beech Ave., Lakeland, was immediately caught and arrested, Rodgers said, but Nelson, of 1436 Lincoln Ave., Lakeland, fled and was found about 2:30 a.m. at 705 Gilmore St., where he was arrested.
Bell and Nelson were charged with first-degree murder and armed robbery. They are being held with no bail set.
