CLEARWATER - Criss Angel's stay at a Clearwater beachfront hotel will be short as the master illusionist and escape artist is planning to get out of the hotel before it is blown to bits in what he says is his last escape attempt.
The stunt will be broadcast live on A&E's "Criss Angel Mindfreak" show at 10 p.m. Wednesday.
Spectator areas will be set up for those wanting to catch the event in person.
According to Clearwater officials, anyone who wants to watch the implosion of the Spyglass Hotel, 215 S. Gulfview Blvd., can gather in safety zones set up north and south of the property, 500 feet away.
A large video screen will be set up at the north edge of the safety zone for viewing of the live program.
Clearwater police will close some roadsbeginning today.
South Gulfview Boulevard will be closed from just south of the Pier 60 parking lot to just south of the Hyatt Aqualea construction site until 7 a.m. Thursday. Coronado Drive will be open for through traffic, police said.
Police will stop traffic on Coronado Drive, from Devon Drive to Third Street, from 7 p.m. Wednesday to 1 a.m. Thursday. Northbound and southbound traffic can use Hamden Drive to get to local homes and businesses.
Police will halt all northbound and southbound traffic from the roundabout to Fifth Street from 10:30 to 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Traffic from the north beach can enter and exit the island using the Memorial Causeway Bridge. Traffic to and from Sand Key should use the Belleair Causeway as an alternate route.
