The state's top mortgage regulator is keeping his job, at least for two more weeks.
The governor and Cabinet this morning gave Financial Regulations Director Don Saxon until Aug. 12 to come back with proposals to ensure convicted felons are not being licensed as mortgage brokers.
Inspectors general from the offices of the governor, the attorney general, the chief financial officer and agriculture commissioner will use the next two weeks to determine whether Saxon's office has been following state law.
Saxon's job likely will depend on the outcome of the investigation. Both CFO Alex Sink and Gov. Charlie Crist indicated they have lost some confidence in the office's ability to protect the public.
