NEW PORT RICHEY - Ingrid Vecsey picked up her 38-year-old son from a bar Saturday night, and soon after they got home, he began beating and choking her to the point she spit up blood, according to a Pasco County Sheriff's Office report.
Richard Eric Vecsey, of 3221 Laird Drive, was arrested on charges of aggravated battery, battery by choking, tampering with a witness and false imprisonment.
He was being held at Land O' Lakes Jail on Monday. Bail was set at $40,000.
Ingrid Vecsey, 58, was nervous about staying in the house with her son, so she left for a while, deputies said. She thought he had calmed down, but she dialed 911 on her cell phone when she returned. Once she got inside, Richard Vecsey grabbed his mother, wrapping his arm around her neck, and began choking her, reports state. She hit "send" on her phone, dialing 911. Richard Vecsey hit her face and head and yelled, "You're not going to call the police," grabbed the phone and threw it across the room.
Mother and son landed on the ground, and Richard Vecsey climbed atop Ingrid and pushed both thumbs into her eye sockets, then choked her until she passed out, a report states. When she awoke, she was struck on the legs with the handle of a wooden shovel after her son told her to stand up, the report states.
He choked her again, the report states, until she coughed up blood, then Richard Vecsey told his mother to lie on the couch with her face in a pillow. After Ingrid Vecsey mentioned his former wife's name, he told her to sit up and then struck her with the handle all over her body, the report states.
When she tried to run away, Richard Vecsey yanked her back by the throat with the handle, authorities say. Then he forced her to lie facedown on the ground and hogtied her with an Ace bandage, told her he would drive her to the "pig farm" and kill her later because he didn't want to go back to jail, according to the report.
A deputy arrived and Richard Vecsey untied his mother, who ran outside.
He denied abusing his mother and told the deputy blood found in the house was from his dog, which has a bleeding disorder.
Ingrid Vecsey was taken to Community Hospital, where she was treated for contusions and bruises.
