SEFFNER - Jennifer Ballengee's penchant for baking and love for customers of the furry kind have led her and her mother, Joanne Ballengee, down a successful career path.
The two are in their third year as proprietors of Whiskers & Wags Pet Bakery, where dogs get pampered, photographed and fed.
And while your basic natural dog food and remedies are available, the real spectacles at this shop are the homemade baked goods Jennifer Ballengee prepares daily. There's doggie sushi, doggie croissants, doggie cookies and even doggie ice cream.
The main ingredient keeping the shop at 11713 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. in business, customers say, is the personal service they and their dogs get during each visit.
"If I ever moved, I'd travel to get there with my dogs," said customer Sandra Simpson, who brings all eight of her dogs to Whiskers & Wags regularly. "They're that good."
Dogs want what people want, Joanne Ballengee said. The baked goods and ice cream are made with ingredients people might eat, minus the chocolate and refined sugar.
