LARGO - A 38-year-old man showed up at his former girlfriend's workplace this morning armed with two handguns, police say.

The man, Neil Marshall James, surrendered to police later in the day.

At about 10:05 a.m., James tried to get into 2401 W. Bay Drive, where his former girlfriend was working, but employees locked the doors, and James took off in a 1987 black, six-door Cadillac limo, said Lt. Mike Loux of the Largo Police Department.

James apparently came to the workplace after he had reportedly struck the former girlfriend with a firearm at a residence in Indian Rocks Beach on Tuesday night, said Cecilia Barreda, a Pinellas sheriff's spokeswoman.

When James drove away from the West Bay Drive address today, there was a girl or woman in the front passenger seat, Loux said. She tried getting out, but James told her to stay inside, Loux said. It is not known how this person is associated with James. Authorities said they were concerned for her safety.

Police are still searching for the Cadillac limo.

No further information was available at this time.
