TAMPA - Since returning to the airwaves in January, "The Bubba the Love Sponge Show" is the most listened-to radio show in the Tampa-St. Pete-Clearwater market, according to the most recent Arbitron radio survey released Tuesday.
"The Bubba the Love Sponge Show" is broadcast live weekday mornings from 6 to 10 a.m. on WHPT, 102.5 FM. Bubba the Love Sponge Clem had been a radio personality in Tampa for 12 years and returned to local airwaves Jan. 8 after a four-year absence.
"Bubba continues to attract audiences in record numbers," said Jay O'Connor, Cox Radio regional vice president and Tampa market manager, in a news release. "In fact, his ratings are larger than popular television shows."
In June, the shock jock made headlines for broadcasting phone messages from a man insulting wrestler Hulk Hogan and his family, saying he wanted his audience to know more about the people suing over an accident involving Hogan's son.
Clem also caught heat in March for criticizing Mark Lunsford after he filed his intent to sue the Citrus County Sheriff's Office over the agency's handling of his daughter's kidnapping. Lunsford is the father of Jessica Lunsford, who was kidnapped, raped and killed in 2005.
"The Bubba the Love Sponge Show" features co-hosts Brent Hatley, Manson, Ned and SpiceBoy, and is regularly visited by sports, comedy and music celebrities.
