LARGO - The search for a new Pinellas County superintendent of schools has taken on a homegrown flavor as all five finalists are from Florida.
Among the finalists is interim superintendent Julie Jannsen, who took over after the departure of Clayton Wilcox in June.
School board members selected the finalists from 36 applicants and made the list official Tuesday.
The candidates will be interviewed again Aug. 27 and 28. Those chosen for a second interview will meet with board members Sept. 2. A final vote is expected Sept. 23.
In addition to Jannsen, the finalists are: Alberto M. Carvalho, associate superintendent, Miami-Dade Public Schools; Nicholas M. Gledich, chief operations officer, Orange County Public Schools; Barbara M. Jenkins, chief of staff, Orange County Public Schools; and Sherrie Nickell, associate superintendent, Polk County Public Schools.
