Join TBO.com for live updates from Clearwater on illusionist Criss Angel's attempt to escape from the Spyglass Resort as it implodes live on TV.
Hi! It's Natalie Shepherd here on Clearwater Beach. It's just about 10:30 p.m. and thousands of people have packed the beach to see the old Spyglass Resort get imploded. The twist is, illusionist Criss Angel will be inside. The crowd is cheering, and chanting his name. They're all counting down to the stunt happening just before 11 p.m. It's supposed to go like this: Angel gets handcuffed to the 6th floor balcony. He then has three-and-a-half minutes to unlock himself, run up to the roof, grab on to a helicopter and fly away before the whole building collapses.
Angel came out just before 9 p.m. tonight. A fire ladder truck took him up to the 6th floor to look around. It's about that time that fans started speculating on how the stunt is going to go. Most everyone thinks he'll make it out safely. They do question how he'll do it, though. Fans of his show "Criss Angel: Mindfreak" point to past stunts for ideas. They say his tricks always include a twist. So, a lot of people don't think he'll be flying off on the helicopter. Some say he'll pop up in the crowd, walk out of the building alive, and one woman believes he'll pull up on the beach on a jet ski. Either way, we'll find out. The stunt will go down in less than half an hour.
One prediction fans do have—they say this trick won't be his last. Angel promised his mom he'd stop after this. But his faithful followers don't believe it for a minute.
