TAMPA - The police department's newest member is ready for her close-up.
Mattie, a 15-week-old bloodhound, and her handler, Sgt. Eric Ward, will meet with reporters 10 a.m. Thursday outside M&I Bank at 501 E. Kennedy Blvd. to be introduced to the public.
The dog, named after the bank's mascot, was purchased with money the bank donated to the canine units of the Tampa Police Department and Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
The bank and the local philanthropic group 13 Ugly Men Inc. donated a total of $16,000 to the units in April.
So far, the sheriff's office used about $6,000 to purchase Chino, a Belgian Malinois-German shepherd mix. The police department used about $2,000 to buy training gear.
