NEW PORT RICHEY - Pasco detectives are investigating a rash of car burglaries in the Gulf Harbors area and so far have made three arrests and issued one notice to appear in court.
Early this morning deputies responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle parked in front of 5723 Westshore Drive and found a teenager sleeping in the back of a Buick LeSabre, according to reports.
Inside the car deputies found numerous navigational systems, DVD players, pistols, golf clubs and other valuables.
The 18-year-old, Thomas Hanlon, of 2543 Micah Drive, New Port Richey, according to Pasco County Sheriff's Office spokesman Doug Tobin, didn't cooperate with the investigation and was issued a notice to appear, ordering him to court on an obstruction charge.
Meanwhile, a police dog was brought to the scene and led deputies to several suspects in front of 5648 Catamaran Court, according to reports.
Deputies arrested Anthony Awed, 17, of 1447 Tawnyberry Court, Trinity; Nathan Allen Stanley, 23, of 7041 Castanea Drive, Port Richey; and Gianfranco Otiniano, 18, 2819 Ravendale Lane, Holiday.
When they were arrested, according to reports, they were carrying burglary tools and latex gloves.
They are all facing charges of auto burglary. Detectives said they think they broke into at least eight unlocked vehicles.
"They would park outside these communities and walk in with backpacks," Tobin said of the suspects.
He reminded people not to leave any valuables in sight including navigation systems and spare change. Vehicles should be locked at all times.
