Diary From The Dominican: Day 3

Published: July 31, 2008

The Cambridge Christian baseball team is in the Dominican Republic this week on a weeklong trip through SCORE International, an organization that for the past 23 years has taken players overseas on short-term mission trips. The Lancers arrived in the Dominican Republic on Monday and will return home Sunday.

Several Lancers players will be writing daily diary entries for TBO.com during their trip to relay their experiences. On Thursday, junior Peter Miller wrote about putting on a baseball clinic in one town and gaining a new perspective on life.

Today we traveled to Boca Chica where we played a talented squad in the Alfonso Soriano League from Quisqueya. Spencer Wynn threw the first three innings, allowing only one run with four strikeouts. We won 11-3, but most importantly we were able to share the good news of Jesus Christ to an entire baseball club and its coaches.

After the game we went to Santo Domingo where we held miniature baseball clinics for over 250 kids. It was a priceless experience being able to use our popularity in a good way. We are welcomed by every town just because we are Americans and we try to use our platform to share with the kids who hang out with us during the games.

The kids we play are crazy about the game of baseball because it is their only ticket out of poverty, and if they fail in baseball they [feel as though they] basically fail in life. We are trying to change their perspective of life, but as the days go by I think our perspective of life is changing.

This trip has opened my eyes to the real meaning of life by showing me how minor baseball is and how important my eternity is. It also shows me that no matter if you're rich or poor, good at baseball or not, people can still have hope knowing that their eternity is secure.

God has definitely blessed our team by allowing us to see many come to Christ. He has also protected us not only on the baseball field, but in the crazy Dominican traffic which would take an entire paragraph to accurately describe. God is good and we are looking for expecting great things for tomorrow.
