SHINE A LIGHT ***

This being 2008, the idea of a Rolling Stones concert film - even one directed by Martin Scorsese - doesn't sound quite as electrifying as it would have 20 or 30 or almost 40 years ago, when the Maysles brothers shot "Gimme Shelter" at Altamont. Still, Scorsese has assembled an impressive array of talent on both sides of the camera.

HAROLD & KUMAR ESCAPE FROM

GUANTANAMO BAY **½

Picking up a few hours after the multicultural stoner duo's trip to White Castle, this sequel has Jon Cho's Harold and Kal Penn's Kumar boarding a plane for Amsterdam with a bong that bears an unfortunate resemblance to a bomb, leading to a chain of events that sets them on the run.

DOOMSDAY (not reviewed)

Director Neil Marshall parlays the critical success of his first film, the chick-horror caving flick "The Descent," into a bigger budget movie, in which Rhona Mitra is sent into a quarantined Scotland to find a cure for the Reaper virus. First, however, she must tangle with post-punk gangs and a host of other elements borrowed from classic '80s sci-fi.

THE BAND'S VISIT (not reviewed)

This low-key debut feature looks at Arab-Jew relations through the prism of a brass band in powder-blue uniforms. When an Egyptian police band finds itself in the middle of the Israeli desert, it is forced to rely on the wary kindness of the locals, resulting in an evening that defies expectations of both the political and cinematic variety.

PG-13, 87 minutes

WAR GAMES - 25{+t}{+h} ANNIVERSARY EDITION (not reviewed)

It's hard to say which will seem more strange to the young people of today: our Cold War-era fear of the former Soviet Union or the mammoth size of computers in 1983. Matthew Broderick is the hacker prodigy who nearly incites a nuclear war; ubiquitous '80s actors Dabney Coleman and Ally Sheedy are also on board.

PG, 113 minutes
