A 12-year-old boy died early this morning after being struck by a car Saturday night while trying to cross U.S. 19 in Clearwater.
The Clearwater Police Department said Giovanni Tejamanic, 24479 U.S. 19 North, lot 311, was with several other children at Celebration Station, an arcade, and was trying to walk across the highway at 24546 U.S. 19 N. about 11:10 p.m. when he was hit by a car heading south.
Police said the boy ran in front of a 2005 Ford driven by Robert H. Doan, 41, of Orlando.
Tejamanic first was taken to Morton Plant Hospital and transferred to All Children's Hospital where he died about 3 a.m. this morning.
Police said the group of children was trying to cross to the Southern Comfort Mobile Home Park where they lived. There were no adults present, police said.
The case is still under investigation but the police department said there is no indication that excessive speed or alcohol played a role in the accident and charges are unlikely.
This is the sixth traffic fatality so far this year in Clearwater and the 41st in Pinellas County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
