Goggin Maintains Control

DUBLIN, Ohio - Mathew Goggin kept birdies and mistakes to a minimum on a long Saturday at the rain-delayed Memorial, shooting a 1-under 71 that was good enough to build a three-shot lead as he tries to win his first PGA Tour event.

Goggin was at 8-under 208, the highest 54-hole score at Jack Nicklaus' event since Greg Norman won a rain-shortened tournament in 1990 at 216.

Former Masters champion Mike Weir matched the best round of the day, a bogey-free 68 that put him at 5-under 211.

LPGA: At Mount Pleasant, S.C., Sophie Gustafson shot a 67 to push past a faltering Karrie Webb and take a six-stroke lead into the final round of the Ginn Tribute.

Tournament host Annika Sorenstam, meanwhile, continued to struggle at her namesake event with a 75.

Gustafson started quickly with an eagle and two birdies her first six holes to go four up. She bounced back from a double bogey on the 12th with two birdies down the stretch.

CHAMPIONS: Nick Price shot a 5-under 66 and took a one-shot lead after the second round of the Principal Charity Classic.

PGA EUROPEAN: Scott Strange maintained a three-shot lead after the third round of the Wales Open.

LADIES GERMAN OPEN: Michelle Wie shot a 2-under 70 in the third round to fall seven strokes behind leader Amy Wang, who had a course-record 63 to finish at 16 under.

CURTIS CUP: At St. Andrews, Scotland, former NCAA champion Stacy Lewis and Alison Walshe hung on to win the final fourball match to give the Americans a 7 1/2 -4 1/2 lead.
