Arrest Made In March 28 Slaying At St. Pete Motel

ST. PETERSBURG - A suspect in a fatal shooting outside a motel in March has been arrested, and one of the witnesses to identify him was his uncle, according to authorities and court documents unsealed this morning.

Emanuel McCray, 22, of 201 36th St. N., was booked into the Pinellas County Jail on Saturday on a warrant charging him with second-degree murder in the death of Jason McDonald, 26. He is being held without bail.

According to the court documents, there was a fight involving McCray and McDonald at the Inn on the Hill, 275 34th St. S., on March 28. McCray left and returned with a firearm, the documents state.

McCray and McDonald argued again, the documents say. McCray had the gun in his right hand and was pointing at McDonald with his left hand when the gun discharged. A security guard at the motel saw McCray put the weapon in his left front pocket and run as McDonald fell to the ground, the documents state.

McCray's uncle, George McCray, was at the hotel at the time of the slaying and later identified his nephew.

A woman who was at the motel also identified Emanuel Cray as the shooter, as did a security guard, the documents state.
