TAMPA - A Boy Scout from Tampa Palms is leading the effort to install a fence at the Mary Help of Christians Center.
Alex Presse, 16, a former student at Mary Help of Christians School, is a member of Troop 148 and is performing the work as his service project requirement to advance to the rank of Eagle Scout.
The fence, made from rope and wood posts, was needed to keep vehicles from driving into the orange groves at the center on East Chelsea Street.
Presse organized a carwash, with the help of his Scout troop, to raise money for the materials, which were discounted by Lowe's and the Rope Warehouse.
Former students of Mary Help of Christians School who are Presse's classmates at Jesuit High School helped him dig the holes for the fence posts. Fellow Scouts helped him set the posts and install the rope.
