ST. PETERSBURG - A pickup truck crashed into a store this morning after its driver mistook the accelerator for the brake, fire officials said.
Harris Martin, 84, told authorities his Dodge Dakota was still rolling, so he pressed on what he thought was the brake, said Lt. Joel Granata of St. Petersburg Fire and Rescue.
However, Martin stepped on the accelerator, and the Dakota went up on a curb and crashed into the center of the Smoke Cheap cigarette store, 3254 Central Ave., at 9:45 a.m., Granata said.
Neither Martin nor anyone inside the store was injured, Granata said.
