BROOKSVILLE - A family member has identified the teenager who was hit by a car and killed as he rode his bicycle Saturday night on Cortez Boulevard.
Valerie Harper said her brother, Justin Leigh White, 17, was a junior at Hernando High School and was the youngest of five children. He was enrolled in the JROTC program at the Brooksville school, she said.
"He was a very, very, very sweet kid," Harper said. "Innocent. He didn't have a lot of friends, but he was very close to his family."
The driver of the vehicle, Timothy D. Price, 45, of 24409 Casey Road in Brooksville, was passing another vehicle southbound along Cedar when his 1998 Ford pickup struck the bicyclist head-on, troopers said.
He was not charged.
The Florida Highway Patrol would not confirm this morning that White was the second teenage bicyclist to die in the space of an hour on Saturday night. The other victim was 17-year-old Scott Avery.
