TAMPA Don't be alarmed if explosions are heard Wednesday and Thursday at MacDill Air Force Base—it's just a test, officials said.
Instructors with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives' Tampa field office are hosting training sessions at the base for law enforcement agencies. The post-blast investigation training will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday and 10 a.m. to noon Thursday.
At least five cars will be blown up each day, allowing students to conduct mock investigations of the blast scene, MacDill spokeswoman Lt. Rebecca Heyse said in a statement.
The training helps prepare federal, state and local law enforcement to investigate explosions that occur in their jurisdictions, Heyse said. Instructors held classroom sessions earlier this week.
More than 20 investigators participated when the classes was last held in March.
