TAMPA - Judge Nelly N. Khouzam was appointed today by Gov. Charlie Crist to serve on the 2nd District Court of Appeal in Lakeland.
Khouzam, 49, of Tarpon Springs, has served as a circuit court judge in the 6th Judicial Circuit since 1994.
"Judge Khouzam has a deep respect for the law, and she will bring tremendous legal knowledge" to the 2nd District Court of Appeal, Crist said in a statement. "I am confident she will serve with honor and impartiality."
Khouzam received a bachelor's degree from the University of Florida in 1979 and her law degree from UF in 1981. From 1990 to 1994, she practiced commercial and construction litigation, personal injury, medical malpractice, contract disputes and insurance-related issues at the law office of Silberman & Khouzam.
She practiced law with Fowler, White, Gillen, Boggs, Villareal & Banker from 1984 to 1990. Khouzam also served as a judicial clerk/staff attorney to Jack Schoonover in the Second District Court of Appeal from 1982 to 1984.
Khouzam will fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge E.J. Salcines, who will leave the bench July 18.
