Quarterback Aaron Murray will have some Plant High company when he plays in the Army All-American Bowl Game on Jan. 3.
Panthers tight end Orson Charles will be joining Murray on the East team. Charles accepted his invitation from the bowl game organizers on Monday. Murray, the state's leading passer last season, was one of the first players selected to play in the annual game and accepted his invitation in March.
Though there have been high schools with two players from the same team in the same year selected for the prestigious honor before, one official told Plant coach Robert Weiner he believes this is a first for a school from Florida.
Past county players selected for this honor include Armwood's Matt Patchan (2008) and Torrey Davis (2007), Hillsborough's Jarred Fayson (2006) and Jefferson's Andre Caldwell (2003) and Jesuit's Xavier Beitia (2001).
A selection committee comprised of several recruiting experts compiled a list of 400 senior football players for nomination. From that list, the top 84 players are selected for the East and West teams.
The game will be televised live on NBC from the Alamodome in San Antonio.
Charles, who has offers from 10 Division I schools, will be visiting LSU this weekend.
