TAMPA An elementary school secretary is facing dismissal after being charged with felony official misconduct because of unauthorized overtime, the school district said Tuesday.
Tampa police on Monday also charged Trinetta Shorter-Williams, 37, of Brandon with felony grand theft and felony scheme to defraud, records show. She was released on $6,000 bail.
A criminal report affidavit states the secretary at James Elementary School received nearly $8,000 in unauthorized overtime between July 2006 and December 2007.
The school district's auditing office found the overtime after the principal of the school at 4302 E. Ellicott St. reported discrepancies in the payroll, school district spokeswoman Linda Cobbe said.
The school board will receive a recommendation June 10 for Shorter-Williams' termination, Cobbe said. She had been suspended without pay May 21, Cobbe said.
Shorter-Williams has been employed by the school district since September 2005, Cobbe said.
An attempt to reach Shorter-Williams at home was unsuccessful. Florida Department of Law Enforcement records show she has no prior criminal record in Florida.
