BOSTON - Rays first baseman Carlos Pena has a fractured index finger on his left hand and is being placed on the 15-day disabled list today.
Pena's finger was was broken during his first at-bat in Tuesday night's 7-4 loss to the Red Sox, when he was hit in the hand by Boston pitcher Justin Masterson. Pena remained in the game and later hit a run-scoring scoring double and a home run.
The Rays said their medical staff will re-evaluate the injury in two weeks, so Pena's stay on the DL could be extended beyond 15 days.
