Guillen, White Sox GM Clear The Air

CHICAGO - Ozzie Guillen and White Sox general manager Ken Williams met Tuesday to clear the air following the managers recent outburst.

Guillen said the air "is as clear as it can be."

Guillen went on a rant Sunday in St. Petersburg after the punchless but first-place White Sox lost three of four to the Rays, saying his boss had to make changes if the team expected to keep winning. The White Sox were 5-for-35 with runners in scoring position during the series, fueling the manager's anger.

Williams response: it wasn't a good idea to throw your boss under the bus especially after he's had Guillen's back so many times over the past several years following numerous outbursts.

INDIANS: Pitcher Jake Westbrook was put back on the 15-day disabled list with an inflamed right elbow. The right-hander was on the DL from April 20 to May 28 with a strained muscle in his left side.

TIGERS: Purchased the contract of left-handed pitcher Casey Fossum from Triple-A Toledo and designated reliever Francisco Cruceta for assignment. The former Rays pitcher signed with the Tigers on April 8 as a minor-league free agent.

NATIONALS: Ryan Zimmerman was shelved for the first time in his career, getting a spot on the 15-day DL because of a small tear in his non-throwing shoulder.

Zimmerman was one of only three big leaguers to start all 162 games last season. He recently ended a streak of 205 consecutive games played.

YANKEES: Jorge Posada threw out two runners trying to steal second in an extended spring training game Tuesday, and Yankees manager Joe Girardi said the catcher could come off the disabled list Thursday.

Posada, sidelined since April 27 with a sore shoulder, caught seven innings and went 1-for-2 with a sacrifice fly and a walk.
