You Don't Mess With The Zohan
Adam Sandler plays an Israeli counterspy who fakes his death and becomes a New York hairdresser in "You Don't Mess With the Zohan" (review, Page 6). We sent our TBO.com Street Team to check it out and share their thoughts.
"If you can make your way through the massive amounts of silliness and fluff, there is a 'Can't we all just get along?' message to this movie. The supporting characters helped make the film bearable, especially John Turturro as The Phantom!
"Some of the ridiculous action sequences of Sandler as an Israeli counterspy had some laughs, but overall the jokes and story line were so outlandish, I found myself squirming in my seat."
Michelle Schenck, Tampa
"Adam Sandler tries to prove he can portray different comedic roles as Zohan, a Mossad agent who fakes his own death so he can go to America and follow his dream of being a hairdresser. I give Sandler props for trying something new. The film makes several funny and thought-provoking jokes about the stupidity of racism.
"Unfortunately, what could have been a very intelligent comedy turns into utter garbage. What we get is more immature and gross jokes than we need. The script is all over the place and the action is over the top. It seems like they couldn't decide if they were trying to make an intelligent comedy or just a slapstick satire."
John T. McMillin, Tampa
"I didn't like the movie much at all but appreciate how the writers tried to make light of the hatred and tension in the Middle East.
"Fans of Happy Gilmore will appreciate the humor in 'You Don't Mess With the Zohan.' Otherwise, stay home and wait for it to come out on cable."
Lauretta Pesce, Tampa
