TAMPA - A man accused by police of offering medical advice and writing prescriptions, despite the lack of a medical license, is back in Tampa, being held at Orient Road Jail without bail.

Anthony James David, 31, was arrested Saturday in Spring Hill, where he lives. It was his second arrest in eight months on charges that he impersonated a doctor.

David was taken to Hillsborough County on Tuesday and went to court Wednesday morning. Judge Walter Heinrich said David will not see release before his charges are resolved.

David, who police say calls himself "Dr. David," was arrested in October while wearing Tampa General Hospital scrubs. He faces three charges of unlicensed practice of medicine, two felony grand theft charges and one felony charge of intending to sell drugs without a prescription.

Tampa police say he advised a woman at an orthopedics office not to take prescribed medication, ordered a brace for a pharmaceutical-sales representative and gave the representative samples of birth control pills for his wife.

After the first arrest, David was released on $104,000 bail and ordered to stay away from hospitals and doctors' offices unless he needed medical care.

On Saturday, while out on bail, David was arrested again after he advised his girlfriend not to take two prescribed antibiotics then gave her a prescription drug, police said. He now faces two more felony counts of unlicensed practice of health care and possession of drugs with intent to sell.
